How to mitigate locally?

Aside of tough and protracted international negotiations, many cities and municipalities are engaging in climate protection on a voluntary basis. They reduce greenhouse gas emissions by, e.g., enhancing energy efficiency, fostering the use of renewable energies and developing low-carbon transport concepts.

The AMICA Mitigation Scan as part of the Mitigation Tool provides a plan outlining potential measures to be implemented in the fields of climate policy, urban development, energy, transport, agriculture and forestry, public procurement and north-south cooperation. It includes strategies for developing a consistent and comprehensive climate policy and allows for different target levels for acting municipalities. It forms the basis of the AMICA Mitigation Scan methodology for analysing local authorities’ climate protection programmes.
